Free printable game similar to Guess Who via SpanishPlayground

Spanish Playground is hosting a Summer Reading Program to keep kids reading, hearing and using Spanish during their summer break. It is similar to the one hosted by Public Libraries around the country but of course all in español! The program is free and all participants will also be entered automatically to win one of 5 packages of Spanish and bilingual books, music and games. Make sure to participate!

This week we team up with Spanish Playground and created a printable game to practice Spanish similar to Guess Who, except that players are describing monsters with fruit names. I have successfully used this game with multiple classrooms, and I am very excited for you and your littles ones to play too.

Print and get more body parts activities and resources. tarjetas 232x300 Free printable game similar to Guess Who via SpanishPlayground

Spring thematic web in Spanish

Spring thematic webs make life easier for all teachers!

As a teacher, February is one of my favorite months. I enjoy planning, creating and designing Spring-related materials and themes! Spring is the perfect season to learn about life cycles; from animals to plants and foods, everything during the Spring begins a new cycle.

I always start the school year by creating a curriculum plan for each season. It helps me organize all the information I will be collecting throughout the school year. It is also a great way to track which information has been provided and therefore what children already know. Since I teach in a spanish immersion school, it is very important for me to created layers of vocabulary and general language knowledge. By creating thematic webs I am able to teach more efficiently each theme.

This is a map a created for a Spanish Immersion Kindergarten class last year for the Spring Season.

I also created a thematic web for each topic with questions to explore in class and…

Mapa temático

An activity web with specific ideas, questions, games and activities to do in class.

Writing a weekly lesson plan it is so much easier (I promise!),  if you have thematic web for each topic and the activities for the the theme already planned.

Preschools of the World and Bogotá, Colombia

Recently I was able to visit my home country of Bogotá, Colombia. I traveled with my 15 month old and we had a blast. The trip was filled with the usual ups and downs that come along with many hours of flight and change in routine. However he had a great adventure. I watched him explore the new scenery within the busy cosmopolitan city that is Bogotá and enjoy the beauty of it’s surrounding hills and mountains. One of the highlights of our visit was a morning as a guest in the preschool, Mi Pequeño Mundo. My son and I took in the sun and greenery as we toured the school. He played in the difference in play structures and enjoyed a glimpse of preschool in another country.

Preschools of the world.

This preschool although in a the capital of Colombia, Bogotá, a city of 8 million inhabitants, has a large beautiful green terrain. Here children run and play in varied outdoor playgrounds when they’re not busy in class. I loved seeing the excitement of the children, from having a guest visitor, while others worked and focused on their classes and tasks. We got the pleasure to attend a music class. In the class the teacher played the accordion! Since the holidays are soon approaching we danced to and sang a few villancicos Colombianos (Christmas carols). We also had the opportunity to visit a cooking class. In this school students take a cooking class once week. As we walked in the room the air was full of the scent of sweet dough baking in an oven. Children here bake cookies, cakes and Colombian food such as arepas.

Have you had a chance to visit other preschools of the world? What ideas have you brought back with you? As for us, we will start making traditional food from Colombia together. I think these holidays we’ll make chocolate caliente and arepas con queso.
